CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Eren Jaeger
Character Canon: Attack on Titan

History: Here!

AU History: Eren's backstory remains similar. Born to a normal human mother, Carla, and an Enlightened Normal type father, Grisha, the small family lived in lower-middle class housing, with Carla keeping the house and Grisha using his support-based abilities and Audino, named Stella, companion to be a very successful doctor, healing those who needed it for only a nominal fee. Eren displayed no Enlightened abilities in his childhood, like his mother, so he went to school and stayed at home, learning various housekeepy things like knitting, cooking, and mending. Eren was mostly a homebody and didn't make many friends at school, but the friends he did make include Jean (sort… of…), John, Armin, Marco, and a few others that will be attended to as they app. I'm leaving an opening here for a Mikasa-type character, an adoptive sibling of sorts, brought into the Jaeger family for whatever reason (in canon, because of the death of Mikasa's family). Things continued as normal until one day, when Eren was 12, the wall of the city was breached by a ferocious Tyranitar, which rampaged through the city and destroyed Eren's family home. His father was out on business and he was at school at the time, so only his mother was caught in the destruction. Eren rushed home from school just in time to see the beast crush his mother in it's jaws. Eren was dragged away, kicking and screaming, by a member of the Guard. His entire apartment complex destroyed and the memory of his mother being killed burned into his mind, Eren vowed to put a stop to rampaging Pokémon once and for all. His father, devastated by the loss of his wife and driven by a similar desire to eliminate dangerous Pokémon, proceeded to team up with Lelouch Lamperouge's mother to complete genetic experiments, awakening and enhancing latent Enlightened abilities in humans (see second point in "Notes" section below). One of those experiments was Eren himself. Given an amnestic, Eren remembers none of it. Grisha believes his experiment has failed when Eren doesn't show any progress, and moves on, traveling around and doing medicine and research. Eren then lived alone (or with earlier mentioned adopted sibling), receiving only letters with money from his father, who couldn't stand the sight of his failure and a boy with a face like his mother's. Since he couldn't stand to return home, Grisha sent Eren a baby Eevee to be his companion. Eren dropped out of school and joined the Guard as soon as he was able to, at age 15. A short time later, while he was still in training, the wall was again attacked by a herd of Rhydon led by a Rhyperior. The wall section that was attacked was not considered high risk, and was being attended to by trainees. Quite a few were killed, and Eren, injured and desperate, awakened to his Enlightened Shifter nature. Using steel wings and claws, as well as backup from Rangers and Guards, the Rhyperior and its group were driven back into the wild. With his powers awakened, but not honed, Eren began practicing. Now that he was an Enlightened, his goal of becoming a Ranger, and maybe even a member of the illustrious Survey Corps, was closer to reality. At the time of the game opening, Eren is 16, 17 in March.

Canon Personality: Eren is a strange kid. In a normal world, he might even be considered borderline psychopathic. Eren killed two men when he was nine. Nine. To say Eren has some serious anger issues would be doing a disservice to just how freakin angry he is. His temper is short, and a violent nature boils right under the surface most of the time. And when he gets angry, people generally get hurt, including him. As shown in his Titan form, he'll stomp on and mutilate his enemies even after they're dead. Seeing his mother die really catalyzed and directed the violence in him, leading to his vow to "destroy all the Titans". It went from being a vaguely directed explosion at pretty much anything that earned his ire to being a honed blade pointed at Titans. Mostly. His anger ranges from horrifyingly violent and murderous to somewhat humorous, usually because of a waaaaay exaggerated reaction to things that are seemingly minor.

While Eren's rage issues are a big part of what makes him tick, it's far from the only personality trait he has, even if his anger is probably the most obvious. When Eren isn't a ball of Titan-killing rage, he's quite normal, for a 15 year old boy. He spends a lot of time being very confused and baffled by the world and politics around him (which can sometimes lead to him getting angry about that, too), but he shows a strong curiosity, especially when it comes to the outside world. Eren dreams of destroying the Titan threat not only to avenge his mother and fallen comrades, but also to allow humanity to be free and once again live wherever they want. In this way, he can also be considered somewhat naive and idealistic. But come on. He's 15. He's allowed a little childishness. Thanks to his rather bad attitude and violent nature, Eren never really made very many friends. Mikasa came into his life when he was ten, and through her, and Armin, he learned how to be somewhat civil. During training, he does manage to make friends with most of the other kids. With a decent group of comrades under his belt, Eren's protectiveness really shines. Originally only shown when Armin is being bullied, Eren is quick to come to the aid of his allies, and it's clear that he's gets attached pretty easily. And with attachment comes betrayal. When Reiner and Bertholt reveal that they are the Armored and Colossal Titans, Eren doesn't even believe them at first. When they transform, the pain of their betrayal becomes evident. Eren has a difficult time reconciling how kind Reiner had been to him with the monster that could destroy the walls and kill thousands of people. However, it seems like with many things, Eren responds to pain with anger, and vows to kill them both as slowly and painfully as possible.

Additionally, Eren is a shounen protagonist. As such, he has incredible willpower, but not much in the way of brains. In fact, in overall ratings, Eren only scores a four out of ten in intelligence. So he's about as smart as a relatively capable sack of rocks. However, what he lacks in brains, he makes up for in willpower, curiosity, willingness to learn, and vitality. And he has those in spades. Eren simply does not know when to give up, and will keep getting back up in a fight until he just can't any more. For example, even after losing a leg to an Abnormal Titan's bite, Eren manages to pull his friend Armin from the jaws of another Titan and throw him to the opposite roof top. He is both pigheaded and impulsive, and rarely thinks before he leaps. He's very lucky that he's way more durable than your average kid, thanks in part to his Titan form. He is also very good at giving rousing shounen speeches. He managed to convince many of his fellow Trainees to join the Scouting Legion instead of the Military Police for the sake of truly making a difference to humanity. However, his lack of forethought often gets him into sticky situations, and it is often up to his friends to save his stupid ass. But, his pure will to survive and fight are an inspiration to his squad-mates. When they aren't groaning and wondering why the hell they put up with him.

AU Deviation: In this AU, Eren is not quite as violent. Though only slightly. He doesn't have the same backstory with killing humans as his canon self. Additionally, Eren's hatred of Pokémon is not as deep-seated as his canon-counterpart's, since he grew up with his father's Audino and other Pokémon in the city that were allies to humans instead of enemies. He still hates the wild pokémon outside the walls, the ones that would rather attack humans than try and live alongside them. As in canon, Eren has mixed feelings about his powers. On the one hand, they give him the power he desires to avenge his mother and create a better world for humans. On the other hand, he still fears many pokémon and their power, and he doesn't even understand the kind of pokémon he is, so he fears his own ability. However, he is much more comfortable with his Pokémon form than his canon-self is with his Titan form. Like his canon-self, Eren desires nothing more than freedom, and views life within the walled city to be only slightly better than a prison. Over all, thanks to a less harsh upbringing, Eren is more approachable and has a somewhat more pleasant attitude, but still has little patience for people who are content with the status quo and desires much more than the human race has.

Canon Abilities:3D Maneuver Gear: Standard issue to all soldiers in the SnK world, maneuver gear is the primary weapon for fighting the Titans. Consisting of steel cables with barbed anchors, a leather harness, and a compressed gas firing mechanism and reels, this equipment allows soldiers to swing between buildings and trees like Spider-man. This ability to move quickly at height is invaluable. Using the 3DMG requires plenty of training, lots of muscle strength and balance, and no fear of heights. However, it can only be used for as long as the canister of gas holds out before one must stop and refuel. The firing mechanism is activated by a trigger on the handle of the swords, and extra blades for the swords are carried in rectangular sheathes on both hips.
Fighting Skills: Despite being a hotheaded brat a lot of the time, Eren IS a trained soldier. As such, he is skilled in using the 3D maneuver gear and giant craft knives swords used by the military in SnK. Eren has always been a scrappy kid, and learned hand-to-hand combat from Annie and the others during training. His fighting style is similar to modern day mixed martial artists, with a dash of Krav Maga. He is capable of disarming opponents with knives, swords, and rifles using only his hands and feet. Coupled with his complete and utter inability to give up, Eren can be a force to be reckoned with.
Titan Shifting: Eren has a rare power in the world of SnK, the power to turn into a Titan. Well, to be more precise, a Titan's body forms around him, while Eren's normal body remains intact in the nape of the Titan's neck. However, he is biologically "wired into" the Titan and sees through its eyes, feels the pain inflicted, etc, so it's somewhere between a biological robot pilot and a true transformation. This form is activated when Eren inflicts damage on himself (usually by biting his thumb) with a clear goal in mind. Being in a heightened state of emotion helps, too. As a Titan, Eren is 15 meters tall and well muscled, with a skull-like grin that stretches from ear to pointed ear. He shows astounding strength, able to carry a huge boulder, and punch the heads clean off of other Titans. He also shows amazing dexterity, as shown when he picks up a tiny teaspoon with his Titan hand. In addition to manifesting a whole body, he can manifest individual parts, such as a single arm or just the torso. Like other Titans, Eren is able to regenerate massive damage to his body, as long the nape of his neck is not affected. This regeneration carries over to his human form as well, albeit at a much slower rate. His Titan Shifter status also means he runs hot, literally; even in human form, if he gets really REALLY riled up, he can release small amounts of steam from his body. But Eren is unpracticed, and once he emerges from his Titan, he is weak, ill, and feverish for at least a few hours afterwards, which is ever so useful on the battlefield, don't you know. This seems to be due to Eren's inexperience, since the other Titan Shifters do not seem to exhibit the same level of fatigue. Once Eren exits the Titan body, it rapidly decomposes into steam, which creates a pretty useful smokescreen. Additionally, other Titan Shifters can harden their Titans' skin in order to protect against blows, which means Eren will likely be able to do the same with training.

Enlightened Abilities: Eren is a Shifter type Enlightened, and transforms into a shiny Skarmory, its steel/flying typing a callback to 3DMG. Since he did not grow up a proper Skarmory, his entire body is not armored. Only his "helmet", primary feathers, talons, and scales are metal; the rest of his feathers and skin are tough, but not steel. As of the beginning of the game, he can glide and climb fairly well, but does not know how to fly. He'll learn. Eventually. His starting moves are Peck, Leer, Whirlwind, and Metal Claw**. Metal claw is not TECHNICALLY a move that Skarmory can learn but they do have metal talons. In human form, he carries a pair of swords made from his own shed primary feathers.

In human form, he displays some feral traits from his pokémon form. He has fangs, pointed ears, eyes that can have round or slitted pupils, metal claws on his fingertips, metal scales on his fingers, short metallic feathers on his shoulders and down his back, and fully bird-like legs from the knee down, also bearing metal claws and scales.

Starter Pokémon: A male Eevee named Blitz

Notes/Special Considerations:
1) Metal Claw and possibly other move considerations later on.
2) Genetic experiment thing. If that's no good, I can just have him be an Enlightened from the beginning.
3) Can Eren possibly be able to call for his father's Audino eventually?

SAMPLES

First-Person: Test Drive Thread with Jean

Third-Person: ((this sample was written for Ruby City))
Eren slept on the train.

He also dreamt. But it's not the usual dreams of vast fields covered in snow, of hills of sand, of vast expanses of water, of flying over all these things and taking them in. In fact, it might be a stretch to call these "dreams" at all; fevered nightmares might be a better term. He saw the Colossal Titan kicking down the wall again, with smaller Titans pouring in like water through the breach. He saw the Armored Titan breaking down the gate without a second thought. But they don't have their usual faces… no, these versions have the faces of their human controllers, people that Eren trusted. People he thought were his friends. He saw Bertolt-Titan and Reiner-Titan take his mother from the rubble. He sae them tear her apart, laughing, saw them eat her as she screams for Eren, screams that turn into gurgles and then silence. They ate Mikasa, they ate Armin, Jean, Levi, Sasha, everyone. All before he could turn into a Titan.

In his nightmare he bit his thumb (he could taste the blood), and he could feel the hot muscle and tendons envelop him. But then he looked up. Even inside his Titan, he was tiny and helpless. He barely came up to Reiner and Bertolt's ankles. He tried to run, but the ground conspired against him to keep him in place. Then a shadow crossed over him, a foot came down, then--

-- the train hit a small bump as it pulls into the station, and Eren Jaeger jerked awake, breathing heavily. There was a coppery taste in his mouth, and when he put his hand to his lip, it came away red. Already he could see a bit of steam rising from the wound in front of his eyes.

"I must have bit my lip while I was asleep… was I dreaming?" he looked out the window, disoriented from his sudden return to consciousness, "I don't remember… what did I dream about?"

It then occurred to him that he's wasn't in the forest any more. He looked around the train. No Reiner, no Bertolt, no Ymir… The train was totally empty. He was alone. His arms and hands were complete once again, and his maneuver gear was at his side. He was suddenly very awake, and hyper aware.

"What the… what the fuck?! Where am I?!!"

Had Reiner put him on a train somewhere? Were they shipping him off to their "home town"?

Well, the train was pulling to a stop with the screech of brakes. He'd find out soon enough.
